2008 Bud McDonough Memorial

Softball Tournament

The Winners of the Tournament

The 2008 Bud McDonough Memorial Softball Tournament was held on Friday, August 8, and Saturday, August 9, 2008. This tournament would go as long as any previous tournament and then some more. There was drama. There were home runs. There were many base hits and many outs. Thank goodness, there were no serious injuries. The winner of the tournament came from the losers' bracket, which made the tournament very interesting.

Thank you so much to the umpire Lee Barta and his daughter Denise Barta as scorekeeper. They made the games flow very smoothly. It was great to see such good rapport between the official and the teams. "A jokingly good relationship with Lee," one team member stated.

On Friday, the games started at 1 pm and ran until close to 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the games were to start at 10 a.m., but didn't get started until a little after 11 a.m. due to a forfeit by the first team. They ran until after 8:30 p.m. due to the losers bracket coming alive to extend the tournament. This made this a very long day for all concerned, but still a very exciting softball tournament.

As you can see, Aarmor Seal had one win and one loss, and the only way they could win the tournament was to win three games in a row. They did! Congratulations to Aarmor Seal!

You can also see that our local Beaver Island business sponsors had a good showing as well with Island Airways still in the race until their loss to Aarmor Seal in the late afternoon on Saturday.
