It was with a sense of shock that the island learned that Carol Ann Wierenga had passed away on August 16 th at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City .
A person of amazing good cheer, wit, and humor, Carol's best feature was her heart despite doctors saying it was weak, those who knew her know for a fact that she had a huge, loving and giving heart. As a retired floral designer, Carol's gift was illuminated at the Beaver Island Christian Church weekly and she outdid herself Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving holidays.
Her time as owner of the island gift shop “Out on a Limb” was so very special making her many, many new friends and showing off her talents in display, gift-giving, and just being someone you loved visiting with.
She watched over her family and special friends. She doted on her dogs – and Satch, of course. Carol had a smile for everyone and unstoppable energy. Health problems would sometimes cause a stumble but she'd be right back at “it” within a short time.
Carol will be remembered by her quick wit, her unstoppable energy and above all her heart, which she opened to others on a regular basis. She was loved and will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Satch Wierenga of Beaver Island; daughter, Karen (James) Fletcher of Wyoming, Michigan; son, Kevin (Laurie) Wierenga of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Ann) Daly of Gladstone, Michigan; sister-in-law, Donna Daly of Grandville; sister-in-law, Emily Wierenga of Bend, Oregon; brother-in-law, Rodger Wierenga of Spring Lake; nieces and nephews as well as many special and dear friends. Carol was preceded in death by a brother, John Daly.

Due to circumstances I haven't been able to give this website justice. My first job, at the library, has been taking up most of my time making it almost impossible for me to cover island happenings. I'm looking for someone interested in taking over this website for me who can give it the attention it deserves. If you're serious, live on the island, like attending events, have a camera, and are willing to learn MacroMedia Dreamweaver MX 2004, please contact me. I'd hate to see it come to a stop next year but I really can't do it all and feel that I've not been giving readers what they deserve.
To Kellie Marie Gillespie and Joseph Michael Knox who were married Saturday, August 19th. Kellie is the daughter of Rich and Laura Gillespie. May they have many, many wonderful years together.
I will be off island from Tuesday afternoon, August 22 until Thursday afternoon, August 24.
