For those who were up and about early this morning, Mother Nature offered a special winter treat. Beginning as an icy pink column straight up into the sky it eventually evolved into a winter rainbow with spectacular colors. On Sunday, January 16th, the Catholic Youth Organization and the Beaver Island Community School Student Council held a Soup-Cook-Off to benefit the Save the Children Foundation. A total of twenty-four soups were donated and eight people made breads. First place went to Mike Green's Clam Chowder. Second place was a tie between Chicken and Dumpling soup by Kathy Hays and the Squash soup made by the Tidmores. Larry and Lauraine Dawson's vegetable soup took third place. As of the last count, the benefit raised $2336.00 and they still had a few more checks coming in. The groups would like to thank everyone who helped pull the Cook-Off together and all of those who donated to it. Grand total as of Friday was $2376.00.
