October's Party

by George Cooper

October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came-
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.

The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses Maple
In scarlet looked their best;
All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.

Then, in the rustic hollow,
At hide-and-seek they played,
The party closed at sundown,
And everybody stayed.
Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along the ground;
And then the party ended
In jolly "hands around."

I Know I Saw That Somewhere...

We haven't done this in a while so it seemed like a good time to bring it back. Can you tell where this is located? You can't be on the island without passing this at least once a day no matter what the season. You'll find the answer here next week. In the meantime, see if you can locate it on the island. It's hidden in plain sight.

Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie

On Thursday, October 27th, former island resident, Marge Wagner married Mr. Rene McKenzie in Meritt, Michigan. Marge and Rene surprised the islanders with their arrival on Saturday and appearance at the Central Michigan University closing party. The bride and groom plan on traveling through the upper peninsula, Wisconsin and make their way down to Texas over the next couple of months. They will be making their home in Meritt. As a side note, Rene also had a connection to the island as his mother, Pearl, worked for Marge at the Castaways Restaurant, now the LakeSports building many years ago. Congratulations, Marge and Rene, may you enjoy many, many happy years together.

Community House Progress

In an effort to "beat the weather" things are moving right along with the Community House. Last week cement was poured in some sections and more is planned to be poured this week.

Fabulous Photos

Abby Adams sent some fabulous photos she'd taken this summer during her sky-diving experience with Deputy Justin Holzschu. Thanks, Abby for sharing these great photos! What wonderful views of the islands! Does it make me want to go sky-diving again? NOT a chance! Once was more than sufficient for me

NOTE: If you are on island dial-up, the full sized photo may take a while to load but the wait is worth it.
