The night of November 17th and most of the day on the 18th saw the island receiving the first "real" snowstorm of the season. Every year it's that magical first snow that's so special. All the sharp angles blur and form a fluffy blanket of snow on wrought iron gates, covering dried up Queen Anne's Lace and milkweed, all making winding staircase of crystaline flakes to the heavens. Trees both barren and full add to the sympony of flakes, with counter horizontal lines carrying the bars of music. For one perfect time it makes everything look different... clean... quiet... magical, not a trace of any previous passings. In Gull Harbor the boulders in the chilly water shoulder the brunt of winter and ice begins to form around each one like a lacy ballet tutu. The lapping of the waves keeps time with the silent symphony. It only happens once a year, that first magical snow.
