Ok, it was a wonderful fall on the island. Mother Nature extended the lovely weather way beyond what we expected. Evidently Old Man Winter got tired of all the meandering of Mother Nature and has decided it's time for him to take the stage. My brother, Ron, is due in this afternoon, from Tennessee. I'm sure his southern blood is going to be noticing the chilliness.

A quick trip out to Gull Harbor and the carwash on Friday, November 18, 2016, was in order to be able to record the calm before the projected storm that is to change (supposedly) our fall into late fall and winter with possible snow. Jim Siler and Sparty were walking out from Gull Harbor toward Whiskey Point. He said that the eagle had been out there, but had flown off. Jim probably got a good picture of the eagle and will probably post it on facebook later. Right now it's 2:30 p.m., and this record of the calm waters at both ends of Gull Harbor Road were recorded just for comparison. In other words, this is the before picture and video.

Received an email today from Lending Tree that stated that my credit score had been changed. A serious change in your credit score was the implication. That got my attention, which is obviously the purpose of the email.
I clicked on the "Check Credit Score" button in the email. They wanted me to sign up for a Lending Tree account in order to get to see my credit score. I did NOT!
I went to equifax. com to see if my credit score had in fact changed after checking credit karma website and seeing that there had been no change in my credit score. There was NOT!
So this scam is obviously being used to gather your personal information for receiving further emails from Lending Tree and other loan groups.
Moral to this story: don't believe everything that ends up in your email or on your facebook account.
It also opens up some interesting questions. Where did Lending Tree get my email from? How did I get on this list? How many more scam emails will I receive by being on this list?
Supposedly winter is on it's way to us, in the meantime, I'm going to enjoy every darn bit of this very strange November weather. Word of the day: sycophant (SIK-uh-fuh nt) which means a self-seeking, servile flatterer; fawning parasite. Sycophant comes from the Latin noun sȳcophanta "slanderer, informer," from the Greek noun sȳkophántēs "informer," literally "fig shower," from sŷkon "fig" and phaínein "to show." The significance of figs is uncertain: it was formerly thought that the word referred to someone who informed against the illegal export of figs; but it is more probable that because sŷkon also meant "vulva" (Aristophanes' Peace, the word referred to showing what cannot be decently shown, e.g., as French faire la figue.) The word entered English in the late 1500s.

An EMS Adventure in Rescue
By Joe Moore
(Locations have been changed to protect the identities. There were no medical center providers on the island when this occurred, only a retired physician who was only doing short office hours.)
The phone rings and the Sheriff’s Deputy on the island asks if EMS would help him in a search and rescue. Some kids walked away from a cabin down the West Side Road of Beaver Island. They left after playing outside the cabin at about 11 a.m. this particular morning, and no one has seen or heard them since then.
I set off the pager for the on-call EMS providers and the Fire Department to ask for anyone who is available to meet us down the west side of the island. It is amazing how many people responded on the radio when asked to meet at the Beaver Island Township Airport.

CC Transit Phone Issues
There have been problems with the 800 number for scheduling the transit. Here is their report.
We have been in the process of tracking down the problem with the 800#. It appears that this number has not been available for use for some time. While we’ve advertised the number for as long as I’ve been at CCT, this is the first time we’ve had reports of it not working. Our IT people are trying to find out why the number isn’t working and hopefully we’ll have it, or another 800 number operational soon. Until this is resolved, riders can use the regular 231-582-6900 number.
Additionally, we now have an online reservation tool that can be used. To access that tool, go to the Charlevoix County website and either go to the Transit page or to the Online Services tab and then choose the “Existing Customers Schedule Transit Rides” hot button. This takes you to the webportal where the customer can create their user name and password. After we approve the submission, they’ll be able to request rides online.
This is the link to that on-line system. I have not tried the on-line system.
Bob Tidmore
http://67.220.100.109:52147/cctransit/Editor's Note: Signing up to get a ride using the portal will not work unless you are are registered and already have used the transit system, and your address is in the CC Transit database. After calling the number for the dispatch given above, I spoke with the manager named Jill. She put my address into the database. It took about five minutes to put in the information. She provided the local number for those that have trouble getting in touch with the dispatch, since they only have one or two dispatchers. The local number is 448-2026. Jill stated that this number could be used by those that don't have long distance capability until the 800 number is working. She also provided an email address of:

Emerald Isle Returns to Beaver Island
The back opening on the Emerald Isle came back down at 1420 (2:20 pm) this afternoon after leaving Beaver Island this morning at 8:20 a.m. The Emerald Isle lost propulsion between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m. this morning or about halfway to Charlevoix. The four passengers on the boat ended up spending six hours on the ferry through an adventure. The propulsion was back on and working, but the Beaver Islander and the Wendy Anne went out to make certain that the Emerald Isle was able to get back to the Beaver Island dock successfully. According to Margo Marks of BIBCO, "This was a fuel problem."
The following gallery of photos shows the three vessels after the Emerald Isle got its engines running again and continue until prior to the Emerald Isle getting past Luney's Point. These were taken from marinetraffic.com:

After leaving the Internet to head in to get pictures, another gallery was formed. This gallery shows the time from the arrival of the Wendy Anne back in the harbor until the Emerald Isle backed into its berth at the BIBCO Beaver Island dock.

The following information comes from a PowerPoint presentation presented to the public on April 13, 2005. This was eleven years ago.
Beaver Island Emergency Medical Services is an independent agency governed by its bylaws, functioning under the Emergency Services Authority, and its contractual agreements with St. James and Peaine Townships. BIEMS is supported by billing patients, by millage levied in St. James township (1 mill), and General funds from Peaine township. (Approximately .75 mills of taxes). From the beginning of BIEMS, BIEMS and the medical center have had a close and cooperative working relationship.Read more about this HERE
